CCAR: Dia Mundial del Refugiat

We carried out the campaign for CCAR (Catalan Commission for Refugee Action) for June 20, World Refugee Day.

CCAR is a social organization that since 2004 has been working in Catalonia for the defense of the right to asylum and the rights of refugees and migrants. This institution assists this group and carries out awareness-raising actions and political and social advocacy.

The campaign slogan was the same as the previous year (in which campaign we had also collaborated): not one step back in the defense of the right to asylum. Although this time the organization was looking for a more impactful aesthetic.

The tone sought by the campaign was powerful, assertive, and activist. And the graphic part had to reflect this. That’s why we chose clean and saturated colors, contrasting typography, and an aesthetic that gives prominence to a key symbol in CCAR’s struggle: the wall.

The world has become militarized, security has been reinforced to suffocating levels, and thousands of walls have been erected, preventing millions of people from moving freely. The wall represents the obstacles that refugees and migrants face along their journey. The second symbol we used was the “X.” A synonym for activism, this image is also used to mark militarized zones and serves as an expression of rejection; it’s a way of saying “enough.” The campaign’s visual material also included images of actions and street demonstrations organized by CCAR.

As for the video message, we included real data on the increase in the number of refugees worldwide (from 40 to 100 million in just one year). The text denounces the rise in the number of ongoing wars, which generate millions of refugees, as well as the growing violence and persecution of human rights defenders. We also highlighted the increasing obstacles to obtaining political asylum.
